It Takes More Than Just Religion To Find God
65I am a Christian and against religion! This may sound like a contrary statement to some but if you really understand what Christianity is and what religion is not then you will better understand what this statement is all about. I'm not against religion in the sense of pertaining to Christianity - but rather depending on religion and leaving out Christ.
It all started as a child. I was raised in a Christian home but that didn't make me a Christian. I sinned and that sin had separated me from my God - just like it has everyone else that has ever been born. There was only one remedy that could reconcile me to my Creator. I had to realize my need for a Savior. I had to confess that my life was headed down the wrong direction. Even though I was just a child of five years old, I began to feel that familiar tug that has been with me throughout the years. The tug of my Creator pulling at my heart strings. (Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right. Proverbs 20:11)
So many people misinterpret what this tugging means. They think it's discontentment. They begin to feel discontent with their husband or wife or they may try to fill the void through other things trying to get this feeling to stop. They could turn to a number of things including alcohol, sex or even over-eating and over-stressing. All the while they are needing to reconcile with their Creator.
So why am I against religion in itself? Religion is man's own attempts to fill this void in his heart. It's man's search for God though he may or may not know it. That's why religion is so confusing and why it varies so widely.
Christianity on the other hand, is God's pursuit of man. It's His way of drawing His beloved Creation back to Himself.
In the beginning, God created man to have fellowship with Him. He could have made us to be robots and demanded our love but he wanted us to choose to love Him. So he created us with the freedom of choice. He allowed evil to tempt us so we could decide which we love more. He could have banished evil forever but again that would have taken away our choice.
When the first man chose evil over fellowship with God it created in every human being since a fallen nature. It is now the nature of man to choose evil. God was very displeased but he wasn't willing to give up on His creation. He knew of only one remedy - someone must pay for the crimes by death so that the human race could be reconciled back to him. It must be someone who wasn't tainted with the fallen nature of man - someone who could provide a spotless sacrifice. God knew that only One Person could ever fill this task - His own Son. (For God so love the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16)
That is when God allowed His Son to take on the form of human flesh and dwell among us on the Earth. He was born to a virgin therefore to prove to the world that he was not the Son of a man but of God. He lived with the same world and the same temptations that you and I face every day - but he was without sin.
Although He performed mighty miracles and although He had a heart of love that reaches out to every human being, still so many never recognized Him for who He was. (He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came to his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. John 1:10-13)
The same is still true today. The Creator is pulling at the hearts of those He loves and the world refuses to see Him for who He is.
God allowed His Son to become human flesh because he knew that humans would relate to humans. He allowed Jesus, His Son, to personally experience the things that humans face.
Jesus was killed by those who rejected Him. In the process He took on every sin that had ever been committed as well as any that would be committed in the future and while he hung there he did something that made Him the ultimate sacrifice - He forgave.
His heart went out to His tormentors because He knew that Satan had blinded their eyes and kept them from seeing who He really was and while he hung there in agony he called out to God, His Father and said, ("Father forgive them; for they know not what they do." Luke 23:34)
When Jesus died the price was forever paid. We can accept God's gift and give our lives to Jesus and we will be eternally saved but if we reject this gift then we must pay for our sins in Hell.
Just as God knew that people can relate to people, He now chooses for those who know about Him to share about Him with those who don't. So if you've felt Jesus pulling at your heart while you read this, then look to Him and call upon Him. He is clarifying to you through this writing what you've been needing all along - a relationship with Jesus Christ. Even if you are already a Christian sometimes discontentment can set in when you begin to stray from Jesus and daily prayer. So if you feel out of sorts go find a place of prayer and let Jesus love you - His precious creation.

A refreshing and uplifting read!

So are you saying that you don't believe in going to church? Is that what you mean by religion? Religion = church?
So that is what they tell you. Do you also believe that none of the books were to be taken out of the Bible too. It says that in the Bible. What you are afraid of what is in those other books. When you read them-if you read them--you will understand why they were taken out and God did NOT take them out--man did.
The orginal church is meant to be your body---the temple of Jesus is your body, not a building. No you are still very religious.
Yes I did read your whole hub. But when I think of religion, I think of going to church to worship with other believers.
I also believe that if people believe that you can go to Heaven without Jesus Christ it is a cult. I don't refer to them as religions.
Ok. the Bible was put together by men. It was agreed upon what the books of the Bible would be - I think it was the Council of Nicea. It was way back - I believe it is 776 or so. If you think that God put those words together then, and has just stranded us since - it is no wonder you are against "religion." You are lacking the belief that God is in your life today.
By defining Christianity as God's way to bring his children back to him, I think you are missing the point. Christianity is an acceptance of Jesus' saving power and grace by dying on the cross and coming back to life. It is a belief in God and Jesus. And it is our- humankind's- belief. I also happen to believe that it is a true belief.
Discontentment sets in when you are tired of following the rules that God laid down in the Bible. I would be interested to know if you actually follow all the rules of the New Testament that Jesus laid down in His covenant with everyone from then on. If you do - I don't see why you are feeling discontent.
And books are around that are not included in the Bible. They weren't included for many reasons - and fear isn't one of them. So I think you might want to have a little more faith that God still taks to us, and maybe there are some books out there that have God's/Jesus' words in them that are true, but weren't included in the Bible.
After all, the Bible's method of chapter and verse wasn't written until well after the Bible was established.
I never said that I don't beleive in God and Jesus. I don't beleive that God is jealous and all that mean stuff. Jesus didn't say anything like some of the stuff that is taught in religions. You need to read way back before Nidea and you need to read about the chronology and what time lines were then and what happened in those timelines.
Yes Jesus talks to us too. No thoe book were taken out because they say they are heresy. No you need to red up on what Jesus was born into and what he said and what he learned prior to that Bible being put together. Jesus was a Nicean and tose things that are in those books where what he belived and taught--no they took them out of the Bible--or rather did not include them because they only want you to belive in evil and put you on guilt trips so that you pay the church---look and read up on those facts when the church first started and all the political plays that the Kings had in them and why the had them. God is kind and good and everything that he made is good--so says he and who is anyone to beg differenlty.
I see alot of people saying things like 'my god' or 'your god' or their god'. Which there is only one God. And I see what you mean about the forums. I try on there but seems to be in vain, even with some others who claim to be saved. The world is in a mess. And only turning back to Christ will fix it. If my people, which are called by my name shall humble themselves........... It's so sad how many unbelievers are out there, but so few willing to hear. Or so many overly confident in self self self to save themselves.
Brainwashed! You know not what I speak of and who are you to judge--no man can judge another==only GOD can. FREE WILL he gave us and that isn't a cope out either. Those who understand it and God's plan of that know what that is and they know that isn't a cop out. How can we be removed from God is we are and have always been a part of him. Jesus was the one who said that his word and the law is in the hearts and minds of everyone--not some and he said that everyone was saved already by his act of the cross--only do you read the Bible and see what it says to yourself--not by what you have been taught. Preachers, Priests, the Pope is not closer to God then you or I. Jesus never said they were either. In fact he didn't like them at all. Guilt trips. When Jesus said to go tell others of his works he didn't mean tell others they are sinners and they are not worthy of God or him. He didn't have that in mind at all.
I would post some links for you to go do your research, but I am afraid that I am being censored here.
Blessedmommy;
I agree with your post and comments subsequent. I hate to see the comments that are not true to the Word, though. Stay the course, and I look forward to reading more of your good work. Remember, God promises that your good deeds will be rewarded.
What are good deeds? God speaks to everyone and he doesn't prejudge anyone. People prejudge others. God talks to me too and so does Jesus. FREE WILL----- There may be ONE GOD but he shows himslef differently to each individual and we all have things to do for him in different ways.
Why was Moses sent to the desert? Do you know? What were the plagues coused by? Do you know?
Jesus is already in everyones heart and minds and souls-so how can anyone do differntly the know that they are there--they may not see it like you do, but that doesn't mean they aren't in that person.
Do you think all the tribesmen of all the indigiounous tribes are going to hell because they don't believe as the white man or as you do?
Did Jesus leave out any people's when he was talking about God or his coming back or his leaving--nope.
I see the judge word has been raised again. I wonder if the definition of the word is known to those who use it. It means to condemn or pronounce punishment. If we would just go to the Bible and read some of the things Jesus said. If it is black and white, then there can be no mistake about it right?
Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
That is one of the greatest verses of scripture there is in the Bible. Can you truly see what it says? Whosoever believeth in Him shall not "PERISH." What does the word Perish mean? According to Thayer;s Greek definitions. (I like it better than Strong's because of how it is laid out)
G622α?πο?λλυμιapollumiThayer Definition:1) to destroy1a) to put out of the way entirely, abolish, put an end to ruin1b) render useless1c) to kill1d) to declare that one must be put to death1e) metaphorically to devote or give over to eternal misery in hell1f) to perish, to be lost, ruined, destroyed2) to destroy2a) to losePart of Speech: verbA Related Word by Thayer’s/Strong’s Number: from G575 and the base of G3639
According to many that I have seen, there is no condemnation no matter what. But yet some perish according to the Bible so who is right and who is wrong?
Joh 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
What does the world need to be saved from? It is obvious that something is wrong if God saays the world needs saved.
One more quick thought. The tree of knowledge of good and evil was in the garden. Nothing is mentioned about the tree of life until after Adam and Eve ate the fruit. Why do you think that is? I truly believe at this time it wasn't mentioned because it wasn't there until it was needed. Of course, I am not 100% sure about that as the thought just came, but I will be studying it out in prayer.
Nice hub blessed.
I made a mistake about the tree of knowledge. It was mentioned before the fall. My bad. Still going to study it out though.
Gen 2:9 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
Blessedmom, very interesting hub. As an outsider, I have an observation to make, that you are free to take with a grain of salt. Lady Guinevere's point, that Adam and Eve were trying to be close to God by eating from the tree of knowledge, can be made without reference to outside books. If you read the account in Genesis, it's clear that the dilemma they faced was whether to do as God did or do as he said. If they did as he said, they would never be able to commune with him as equals. They chose instead to do what would make it possible for them to know what he knew and be more like him. God was concerned that if they ate from the other forbidden tree (the one of eternal life), they would end up just like him, and so he banished them before they got the chance.
Whether to do as God says or as he does is a big issue among present day believers as well. Some people say: "Ask yourself what Jesus would do in this situation, and do that." But, of course, following that advice might involve cursing barren fig trees and overturning other people's tables. Other people say: "Don't try to play God." This means: "Do as God says, not as he does."
When disciplining our own children, we are faced with the same issue. Do we want our children to do as we say or as we do?
This is a big point of contention among different people who try to follow the same religion.
Nice Hub title to your article. It's true, usually it's because of religion that people do not come to trust Christ alone for their redemption.
i believe that i hear opinions being paraded around as facts...mommy, i'm not sure that man was created solely to loll around in god's fellowship...
mr. dent...i hesitate to bear your title, as i wonder about it's authenticity...and by the way... you might want to bouble check your definition for "judge"...oh well...it will pass for intertainment...
One question I have for everyone who commented on this hub. Who knows best, God or man?
God never disobeyed anyone who had authority over Him. Of course, that's a given because who can be above God?
Pylos. it doesn't matter to me what you call me. SirDent is not a title but a handle that I use. Do you ever judge anything at all? Is being an alcoholic bad when your children starve as you drink away ever penny you ever made?
Well Sirdent,
You can't say that you know GOD either and we don't even know if God has anyone overseeing him either. We are part of God so we know some of God just as children know their parent's.
Let's see if this gets deleted again shall we......what I had asked in the message that got deleted was if she ever did anything against her parent's wishes just to be disobedient and did she do it on purpose just to get a reaction from them. I said that her theory doesn't hold water and shildren aren't as evil as she portrays them to be.
That wouldn't be the roginal Bible would it?
I wasn't bent to argue.I was asking you some questions to think about--you didn't like it and then you deleted it becasue it did show up for a few hours before you deleted it.
I am sorry you are still so religious--don't take it out on us who see it differently.
Don't worry about anything ele that I said--I won't come back--people don't like to be censored and you deleted two of my posts!!
LG, if God has anyone overseeing Him then he is certainly not God. I will say this and probably not come back here anymore.
God cannot be known by the power of any man. Man has tried for thousands of years to reach God by their own means. It doesn't work that way. Until God reveals Himself to a person, that person cannot know anything about God.
If God is everything and everything is God then you have to agree that murder, rape, stealing, etc. . . are also God. Hmm., seems to me that it is a judgement call. There's that word again that everyone tosses about like a chefs salad.
WOW! hmmmmm It seems this Hub has touched some nerves!! Well I have came to give your Hub some love! I understand your Hub. I do not debate just Praise God and speak the Word of God. Keep writing!!! God has the LAST WORD! Luv Luv, lol, lol, lol
blessedmommy...i do not appreciate it one bit you censoring my reply to Mr.dent...if you don't intend to allow discussion then don't start a hub...i await to see if you allow this post...
Good for you Blessed. Stand your ground. I love this hub.
When I read some of these things what comes to my mind is the Pharisees and the Sadducess. ( not referring to you Blessedmommy)
Jesus said in Matthew 15:8-14 This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far away from me. But in vain do they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the precepts of men. And after He called the multitude to Him, He said, to them, Hear, and understand. Not what enters into the mouth defiles the man, but what proceeds out of the mouth, this defiles the man. Then the disciples came and said to Him, do you know the Pharisees were offended when they heard this statement? But He answered and said, every plant which my heavenly Father did not plant shall be rooted up. Let them alone, they are blind guides of the blind. And if a blind man guides a blind man, both will fall into a pit.
I believe this is why God tells us to take every thought captive, dont you?
I am glad that you stand up for what you believe in. I agree. Religion will get not get any one into heaven but believing in the Lord Jesus Christ and serving Him, making Him Lord of our life and trusting by faith (not man) He will do what He said He would do.He died and rose again and one day He will come back to take us to our real home. after all, this place is not our home, we are just passing through.
Didn't mean to give a sermon, but it's important that people realize salvation and not religion is top priority.
Be Blessed In The Lord and keep on serving however God tells you too !!!!
Amen !!!!
In the last book of the Bible in Revelation chapter 22: 19 it states the following:
"And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book"
I believe that says it all!
Great!!!
Nothing I can add except “Amen!!!”
This is beautiful and I give you thumbs up. Thank you. ~ eddie
If we could all be so humble and believing as a child...what a wonderful world this could be....G-Ma :o) hugs
Excellent Hub Sister. <>< The following pretty much says it all. Those who argue against the truth by the use of mans wisdom will find themselves without remedy on that great day when we all stand before the Creator.
Those who are not wearing a white robe washed in the blood of the Lamb, will not be able to walk through the gates of Heaven and enter into the Kingdom of His dear Son.
1Co 1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. 1Co 1:19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. 1Co 1:20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 1Co 1:21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. 1Co 1:22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: 1Co 1:23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; 1Co 1:24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. 1Co 1:25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 1Co 1:26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: 1Co 1:27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 1Co 1:28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: 1Co 1:29 That no flesh should glory in his presence. 1Co 1:30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: 1Co 1:31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
This is a wonderful hub! Adam and Eve sinned. They were disobedient they consciously choose to do what GOD had told them not to do... God created us to relate to Him as our Father, God and Creator. Jesus Christ came so that we could be restored back to that intimate personal close relationship God intends. This is why we all need JESUS as our LORD and SAVIOR; to save us from the power of sin that causes one to again walk in disobedience. God created us to be a part of HIS family not religion. His Church (not the building) is the Bride of Jesus Christ... Yes, we do gather together but it is supposed to be to have fellowship and worship and PRAISE HIM collectively as the family of GOD.
Quite often religion on the other hand tends to separate God's family...
Blessings again for a great hub!
I ENJOY YOUR HUBS CARISA THANKS FOR TAKING A STAND FOR JESUS .. LOVE YA FRIEND
Wonderful hub! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F86DIGcV9Jc This video has a wonderful song.
I can tell by some of the comments that some people don't understand the truth of Jesus. He saved my soul, healed me when i was crippled and dying and I love living for Him and worshiping Him so it don't matter what other people say. They can't take that away from me. Knowing you personally since your my sis lol, I have saw you all through your life live for God and stand for the truth and God has blessed you, keep writing for Him:.)
wonderful hub..God says do not add to this book or take away..the bible
Revelation 22
18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll. 19 And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll.
20 He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.”
Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.
21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen.

I think we got it wrong about the first sin being against the fellowsip of God. If you read other books that were not put into the Bible you will understand that it was the opposite. Satan said tht they would know knowledge. Well being away from God tore man apart. He was lonely after he was put on earth. When Satan told them they would know everything just lke God--in their minds they weren't sinning---they truly were looking for fellowship with God again. Don't believe everything that you are told, beleive what you see and read--not what others tell you wha they understand it as. Reluctant Messenger has those books and the one that I m talking about is The First and Secon Book of Adam and Eve.
